Miami … A new perspective on Haiti … and the relief effort
Before our wake-up call … we had space to gripe & complain. After the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, perhaps Miami will complain less.
.. complain less about having to pull building permits…. do engineering designs and reports… schedule building, zoning and code-compliance inspections. Miami got a wake-up call and will now grapple with a broader perspective… the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Utter devastation! IF only… Haiti had the same rigid building requirements codes Miami has…
Miami … a melting pot of nations, cultures and languages… including a fairly large Haitian community. In the aftermath of the 2010 Haitian earthquake, containers of food, powdered milk, water and supplies left from the Miami River- almost immediately. Injured were airlifted from Haiti to be treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami… by the University of Miami. Jackson Memorial is now expecting, and preparing for more.
Building codes and regulations? Maybe (just maybe) Miami will be complaining less about having to pull building permits… complaining less about having to comply with building codes. Maybe Miami will abandon efforts to circumvent the stringent building code regulatory process. Haiti was built without building codes and regulations… without steel reinforcing bars…
