First Hurricane of 2011 Heads Towards the U.S.

As Hurricane Irene continues to pose a threat to South Florida, there are some things you should keep in mind in preparation for the storm. Remember to fill your cars with gas, as it’s hard to come by if we lose power. Stock up on water, non-perishable goods, dog food and medications. Make sure important documents are safe by placing them in plastic ziploc bags or plastic containers. Have cash on hand, as ATMs won’t work if there is no power. Have batteries, candles and flashlights as well. If the power goes out, you can use buckets of pool water to flush toilets.
Put up shutters when the watches are issued. Most importantly, stay calm and stay indoors. If you’re prepared, you’ll be ready to ride out the storm.
