Coral Gables Farmer’s Market Every Weekend through March
The Coral Gables Farmer’s Market runs now through March 27, 2010. Located at 405 Biltmore Way, the market includes chilis, citrus, corn, eggplant, bananas, onions, potatoes, honey, herbs, strawberries and a variety of plants for sale. There’s also some baked goods available. The market runs every Saturday morning from 8 am to 1 pm.
It’s a tradition that dates back to the 1920’s, when it was a thriving avocado and guava grove owned and operated by City founder George Merrick. Every winter, those involved in agriculture would return to the town center in a three-month event amidst the classic Coral Gables architecture.
In addition to the goods at the market, there are free classes offered for market shoppers. The schedule is as follows: 8 am- Tai Chi in the park. 9 am- gardening workshop. 10 am- a master che from one of the local Gables restaurants will create a dish for shoppers to sample…restaurants like Caffe Abbracci and Morton’s Steak House. 11 am- children’s activities offered. Again, these classes / workshops are free. Enjoy the wonderful South Florida weather and spend Saturday morning at the Farmer’s Market in the Gables.

Community Pool in South Miami May Become a Reality
South Miami residents have waited a long time to see a community pool added to Murray Park and they may finally get their wish. Construction could start late next year, as the city now has enough money to build it.
City Commissioners could give City Manager Roger Carlton the green light to start designing the project as well as applying for building permits. Carlton told the Commissioners that he has more than $1.4 million in grants from the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency Funds as well as from the County’s Housing and Community Development department. Approximately $317,000 is set aside for the design of the pool with the rest saved for the pool’s construction.
There are still a few concerns regarding the pool’s construction, but the Commissioners and the City Manager will continue their discussions. Carlton believes that “every community needs a pool,” and South Miami might soon have one. For the complete article, click here.
If you would like to live near the proposed community pool, or for any of your real estate needs in South Florida, I would love to help. Send me a note here.

Holiday Safety Tips From The Experts: Miami Style
This holiday season, keep yourself and your family safe. Here are some helpful tips from the Miami Dade County Fire Rescue Department…
Christmas trees are great, but can potentially be hazardous. The Fire Rescue Department recommends a few ways to care for your tree.
- Always keep your tree watered because those that dry out are easier to ignite. The average six-foot tree consumes up to one gallon of water per day.
- Keep the tree at least three-feet from a fireplace, radiator, space heater, heating vent, or any source of heat, and never put the tree where it blocks an exit.
- Properly dispose of the tree after the holidays, as it will continue to dry out and become more flammable.
Christmas lights are everywhere this time of year, and should Read the rest of this entry »

Coral Gables: Among the TOP Zip Codes in the Country!
“The City Beautiful” (literally and figuratively), Coral Gables captures an elegance admired not only locally, but internationally. Incorporated in 1925, the City of Coral Gables continues to offer incentives to architects, builders and developers whose designs are in keeping with George Merrick’s vision of a community steeped in Mediterranean style. Merrick was influenced by Deering’s creation of Villa Vizcaya, and envisioned creating a Spanish-influenced city within Miami, giving it shape, structure, and esthetic beauty. Working with master craftsmen and city planners, Merrick began what would become a cultural gem of South Florida, Coral Gables .
Rich with culture, Coral Gables distinguishes herself through Mediterranean-revival style architecture. Now more than ever, that urban core, from Miracle Mile to Merrick Park, bustles with ever-growing numbers of art galleries, fine restaurants, bookstores, and shops. Increasingly more pedestrian, with open air markets, street fairs, art shows, cultural and community happenings Read the rest of this entry »
