HGTV will be filming in Miami for an upcoming  prime-time show, and the producers of HGTV asked  Miami Realtors, Alexandra and Vicki Restivo of EWM Realtors to work with them  on it.

Filming will document one home sale in Miami…  following an individual/family through the process of selling (listing, pricing, staging, showing the house, selling…).  Homes can be of any price range, style or type. 

We are looking for sellers who are outgoing and energetic  (after all, this is for television)…  and happy to share their story (and the nitty gritty details of it) with the world.  Cameras will capture much of the trials and tribulations… and the rollercoaster ride of selling a house…  the ups and downs of prepping the house for sale, pricing, negotiating, and ultimately selling. The Dalai Lama Set To Visit Miami

The Dalai Lama is set to visit the University of Miami on October 26, 2010. This is a return visit for the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzen Gyatso, who will speak on “The Quest for Happiness in Challenging Times”. The event will take place dalai_lama_hatat the Bank United Center at 1:30 PM on Ocotber 26. The event is open to the UM community of students, faculty and staff.

The Dalai Lama spoke at the University in 2004, where he spoke on “A Human Approach to World Peace.” He was also given an honorary doctorate of humane letters, which recognized him as a world and spiritual leader.

The University of Miami – Florida’s Number 1 College

umiamiThe University of Miami has something else to add to their list of accomplishments- they are ranked the number one College in the state of Florida. US News and World Report Magazine ranked UM number 47 in the country among all national research universities. Ranked number 50 last year, U of M has never held the number one spot before, which belonged to the University of Florida (who dropped from 47 to 53 this year). Just nine years ago, the University of Miami was ranked 67th in US News’ annual tally. Palmetto Bay Parks

Back to School doesn’t mean you can’t get out and enjoy the parks that Palmetto Bay has to offer! While the rest of the country is transitioning into the fall season, we can still enjoy the summer weather. The parks in Palmetto Bay have much to offer…

Coral Reef Park: Situated on more than 50 acres, the park is located in the heart of the Village. It features canals, a Pineland Preserve and open green spaces and sandy beach volleyball courts and a Meditation Garden. The Village is adding a concession and also plans on revamping the softball/baseball fields as well as the walking paths. The park is located at 7895 SW 152nd Street Palmetto Bay, FL 33157.

palmetto bay parkPalmetto Bay Park: The 25 acre park features basketball courts, a boundless playground (the largest in Dade County), a skate pavillion, and a six field softball complex. The park also has a concession building and observation deck as well as a recreation room. There are also picnic tables, tree lined pathways for biking jogging or walking, as well as large green open spaces. Located at 17535 SW 95th Avenue Palmetto Bay, FL 33157 and is open from sunrise to sunset.

Thalatta Park: The four acre park allows direct access to Biscayne Bay. There is much wildlife that thrives in the mangroves here-marine iguana, herons and pelicans, among others. On the property, there is a vintage residence, named “Thalatta” (meaning the sea). In 2007, the park was named after the house. There is a recreation room as well as picnic pavillions. The park is currently undergoing renovations and is expected to reopen in the winter of 2010/2011. A New Twist on Coral Gables Hospitality

The Ambassador Program is coming to Downtown Coral Gables. These Ambassadors will be like a concierge, but will be street-side. By the end of the year, the easy to spot Parking Enforcement Officers will be asked to participate in this program. directions in coral gablesThey will answer questions about the City and it’s history, they will provide directions to your favorite restaurant and hand out literature like maps or brochures, in addition to their regular parking duties. The officers will receive training in First Aid, Hospitality, City Services, Public Transportation as well as in Customer Service. The Ambassadors will wear bright clothing and will have marked vehicles, making it easy to spot them. The goal is to provide visitors and residents with a friendlier experience in Coral Gables. The program is supposed to be implemented by the end of 2010.

Coral Gables Parks

park playCoral Bay Park: Located at 1590 Campamento Ave, this 1.3 acre park features picnic tables, benches, a walking path, a playground and basketball courts.

Jaycee Park: The park is situated on 2 acres and has a tennis court, basketball court, a playground, pavillions, benches and a walking path. It’s located at 1230 Hardee Rd.

Nat Winokur Park: The half acre park is located at 150 Ruiz Ave and features a basketball court and a playground.

Pierce Park: This smaller Gables park has a playground, picnic tables and pavillions. Located at 101 Oak Ave.

parkSunrise Harbor Park: This park features tennis courts, a basketball court, picnic tables, a walking path and a playground. At just under an acre, the park is located at 25 Sunrise Ave.

Salvadore Park: The 3.7 acre park is also a popular tennis center, located at 1200 Andalusia Ave. There are covered picnic tables, swings, slides, a clubhouse and a playground. There’s also a large grassy area, perfect for dodgeball or other sports.

Phillips Park: Located at 90 Menores Ave, the 3.2 acre park has tennis courts, a ball field, a basketball court and a playground as well as picnic tables and benches.

Parks in Pinecrest

With summer still in full swing, what better time to enjoy the outdoors by visiting one of your neighborhood parks! Pinecrest has a variety of parks for your entertainment, six to be exact.

Coral Pine Park: This nine acre park has 6 lighted tennis courts, a recreational center, a playground and open field area. In 2001, the tennis courts were equipped with a $52,000 lighting system. Open daily from 8 am-10 pm and is located at 6955 SW 104 St.

baseballEvelyn Greer Park: A ten acre park with multipurpose athletic fields for baseball/softball and soccer, a playground, batting cages, community gazebo and recreation center. In 2001, the Village dedicated it as “Pinecrest Park” and was redesignated as “Evelyn Greer Park” in 2004, after Pinecrest’s first mayor. Parenting Magazine named it one of the best playgrounds in South Florida in 2005. Located at 8200 SW 124 St. Open 10 am-10 pm Mon-Thursday, 10 am-8 pm on Fridays and 8am-8 pm Saturdays and Sundays.

soccerFlagler Grove Park: The newest park to be added to the city, it features 3 acres of youth soccer fields and a playground. Located at 7551 SW 104 St, the hours are 10 am-9 pm Monday-Thursday, 10 am-8 pm Fridays and 8 am- 8 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Red Road Linear Park: This is a 2.5 mile lighted bicycle/walking path along the Snapper Creek Canal on Red Road. There are three rest areas enhanced with coral rock walls and landscaping along the historic road.

bballSuniland Park: Situated on 10 acres, the park has batting cages, athletic fields for baseball and football, basketball courts, a rec center, a playground and a gazebo. The Gazebo features Wi-Fi. In 2002-2003, the park received $1.2 million in improvements, including the new walking/jogging path, enhancements to the fields, and the new building and gazebo. Located at 12855 Pinecrest Parkway. Hours of operation are 10 am-10 pm Monday-Thursday, 10 am-8 pm Fridays and 8 am-8 pm on the weekends.

Veteran’s Wayside Park: This 4.5 acre park has a freshwater lake, picnic tables and open recreation areas. The park honors the service of the men and women in the Armed Forces. Located at 11111 Pinecrest Parkway, it’s open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Miami Spice: August 1-September 30

miami spiceMiami Spice is back and Miami’s finest restaurants are ready to serve up some delicious meals. The event offers 3-course meals for lunch ($22) and dinner ($35). Restaurants like Mr.Chow, Chef Allen’s, Mortons and Scarpetta at Fountainbleu Miami Beach are just some of the many featured this year.

Get out and try some of the area’s finest restaurants at just a fraction of the cost. Who knows…you may find a new favorite!
