World Cup Fever in Miami

fifaThe 2010 World Cup is here and has fans in Miami heading to local hangouts to take in the various matches! The FIFA World Cup comes once every four years, with this year’s venue being South Africa.

This year’s matches began on June 11, and the finals will take place at 2:30 pm EST on July 11. Teams such as USA, Argentina, Brazil and France are playing this year, along with reigning champs-Italy. To find out when your favorite team is playing, click here.

2010 Delray Beach International Tennis Championships

This year’s tournament promises to be exciting, with players like James Blake, Tommy Haas, Taylor Dent, and legends like John McEnroe and Patrick Rafter. Doubles favorites Bob and Mike Bryan will also be playing. tennisThe tournament runs from February 20 to 28 at the Delray Beach Tennis Center. There are still tickets avaialable to the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships.

Eric Hechtman, former University of Miami tennis star, played the Delay Beach pre-qualifying tournament. Eric beat FAU’s Marc Abdelnaur. Hechtman will be playing in the qualifying rounds. Come out and see him as well as the other stars, play some great tennis.

More tennis is coming to town next month when the Sony Ericsson Open comes to Key Biscayne. That tournament runs from March 24- April 4. We’ve got some great tennis in our backyard. Miami Hurricane Tennis is Back

uMiami Tennis is back in full swing. Both the men’s and women’s teams had their season openers against FAU-and both swept FAU for the win 7-0. The women’s and men’s schedules are available now. Come out to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center  and support the tennis teams. Admission is free.

SuperBowl 2010 in Miami!

super bowlFor the 10th time, the Super Bowl is being played in Miami! This year, the New Orleans Saints  and the Indianapolis Colts  will play at the newly named Sun Life Stadium on February 7, 2010. Kick off is at 6:25 pm, but tune in at 6 pm for all the pre-game fun. Grab your best Super Bowl finger food and some good friends and watch the game in our very own backyard!

Last Football Game of the Season for the Miami Hurricanes

SebastianThe number 17 ranked Canes will play in their last game of the regular season on Saturday November 28 in Tampa, Fl. They play the University of South Florida Bulls. The game will be televised on ABC.

Miami Hurricanes Football: Last Home Game of the Season

Canes Home GameSaturday November 21 come support the Canes in their last home game of the season as they take on the Blue Devils of Duke University at Land Shark Stadium. Buy tickets here. The following weekend, the Hurricanes play their last game of the regular season in Tampa , against the USF Bulls.

Former UM Tennis Player Shines in Delray Beach Tournament

Former University of Miami tennis star Eric Hechtman won the Delray Beach ITC “Survivor Series I” pre-qualifying tournament this past weekend. The draw included 124 other players. Hechtman scored a three-set win over FAU junior Marc Abdelnour (2-6, 6-4, 6-2) on Tuesday in Delray. Eric reached the finals the past two years-the third time was the charm!

Hechtman is one step from playing in the ITC by earning a wild card into the ATP World Tour event’s qualifying tournament to be played in Febuary. The top 4 players in the 32-player draw advance into the ATP main event.

eric and rogerEric graduated from UM in 2006 and is now a Pro at Royal Palm Tennis Club, in Pinecrest. Hechtman has been the hitting partner for Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal & Serena Williams. He often plays with Venus Williams as her hitting partner.

The Delray Beach ITC tournament will be played February 22-28 and will feature headlining tennis players like Mardy Fish, James Blake  and Tommy Haas. The complete article is available here.

University of Miami Alumni & Homecoming Weekend

miami-football-The University of Miami welcomes back it’s alumni for a 3-day celebration, November 5-7. The activities are abundant, with events such as “Alumni Avenue,” giving alums a chance to reconnect and a pre-homecoming game celebration. Students are invited to celebrate Homecoming Weekend among the alumni at Landshark Stadium, where the # 16  ranked Canes take on the University of Virginia. Kickoff is noon and will be broadcast on Raycom.
